Duality in Tropical Modernism Architecture

Located in the vibrant yet serene heart of Umalas, ZZA Umalas Villa redefines what dual living can be in Bali’s hospitality landscape. Designed across a 256 m² site, it houses two distinct yet harmonized villas with a three-bedroom unit (181.5 m²) and a two-bedroom unit (122.8 m²), both connected by one architectural soul.

This project embodies the essence of tropical modernism architecture, balancing openness and intimacy, calm and energy, tradition and innovation.

Our client envisioned a space that feels like one iconic home from the outside but lives as two independent sanctuaries inside. Through that vision, our expert designers in Manon Design Studio developed the concept of “Dual Villas, One Identity.”

Rooted in Tropical Mediterranean expression, the design blends Bali’s lush openness with the timeless softness of Mediterranean lines where arched silhouettes, warm beige tones, and textured finishes whisper tranquility and warmth.

Design Approach

Guided by our philosophy, “Nature Inspired, Brand Defined,ZZA Umalas Villa expresses tropical modernism architecture through rhythm, proportion, and material honesty. Each villa opens toward a sunken lounge and private pool, allowing the outdoors to flow inward effortlessly. Natural ventilation and diffused daylight also define the atmosphere which brings every space to life with Bali’s gentle climate.

A shared façade gives both villas one cohesive face; clean, curved, and contemporary while a hidden internal connection allows flexibility between independent rental use or a single-family retreat.

The material palette in this tropical modernism architecture is tactile and organic using natural stone, tropical wood, and textured plaster shape, an experience that is modern yet deeply grounded.

Last but not least, rooftop terraces extend the living experience under Bali’s golden skies, turning everyday moments into quiet rituals of rest and reflection.

Living Experience

If you want to know how it feels like living in ZZA Umalas Villa… It is all about harmony where Mediterranean calm meets Balinese soul. It is also a place to breathe, unwind, and reconnect. Whether for private living or hospitality, every corner is designed to nurture comfort, emotion, and belonging. Additionally, the sound of water, the warmth of natural light, and the serenity of open air together define what tropical modernism architecture truly feels like.

We at Manon always stick to our philosophy of designing spaces that do not just house life, but we have to elevate it. Let’s shape your next sanctuary NOW!
