Owner's Design Vision

"We wanted to create more than a place to eat. Our vision was a destination where guests could experience the warmth of North Sumatra while embracing the relaxed tropical lifestyle of Bali—a place where food, culture, and atmosphere naturally come together."— Alfredy, Owners of Cafe Lomo and Toba restaurant

Cafe and Restaurant Design Bali Inspired by North Sumatra's Cultural Heritage

At Manon Design Studio, we believe hospitality spaces should create lasting memories long before the first meal is served.

Cafe LOMO & TOBA Restaurant was designed as an immersive cafe and restaurant design Bali project that brings together the cultural richness of North Sumatra with Bali's tropical lifestyle. Located within LOMO Boutique Hotel in Uluwatu, the project explores how architecture can connect heritage, hospitality, and nature into one seamless guest experience.

Rather than recreating a traditional Batak restaurant, the design interprets its identity through contemporary tropical architecture. Every space encourages visitors to slow down, gather, and experience the atmosphere as naturally as they enjoy the cuisine.

The name TOBA pays tribute to Lake Toba and the cultural traditions of North Sumatra, while Cafe LOMO complements the journey by offering a relaxed social destination that welcomes hotel guests, surfers, travellers, and the local community throughout the day.

Design Approach

As a cafe and restaurant design Bali project, the architecture responds directly to Bali's climate while celebrating the storytelling of Batak culture.

Open dining spaces maximise natural ventilation and daylight, allowing the restaurant to remain comfortable without feeling enclosed. Warm timber, natural stone, woven rattan, handcrafted carvings, and textured finishes create an atmosphere that feels both authentic and contemporary.

Instead of relying on themed decoration, cultural identity is expressed through architectural experience.

Several design elements shape the project:

  • Open tropical dining spaces that embrace Bali's climate.
  • Batak-inspired craftsmanship interpreted through contemporary design.
  • Large central tree symbolising gathering, protection, and community.
  • Natural materials including timber, rattan, stone, and woven textures.
  • Flexible café and restaurant layout supporting both casual and destination dining.
  • Warm lighting and layered spatial composition creating an inviting hospitality experience.

Together, these elements create a destination where architecture, food, and culture become part of one continuous experience.

Dining Experience

Cafe LOMO & TOBA Restaurant offers more than food—it creates a place to pause, connect, and experience the spirit of North Sumatra within the tropical landscape of Uluwatu.

From morning coffee to evening dining, every moment unfolds within spaces designed to feel open, relaxed, and naturally connected to their surroundings. The combination of tropical architecture, handcrafted details, and cultural storytelling transforms everyday dining into something memorable.

Through this cafe and restaurant design Bali project, Manon Design Studio demonstrates how hospitality architecture can celebrate cultural identity without becoming overly literal, creating destinations that feel timeless, welcoming, and deeply rooted in place.

Meaningful hospitality begins with spaces people remember.

At Manon Design Studio, we design cafés, restaurants, and hospitality destinations that bring together architecture, culture, and memorable guest experiences through thoughtful design and a strong sense of place. Contact us and start your project consultation today.
